I would like to introduce you to Aubrie Dionne. She is the author of A Hero Rising! Let's get to know the person behind the pen-name.
Aubrie, tell us about yourself.
Thank
you for having me on your blog! I’m a professional flutist by day and a writer
by night. I teach music at a local community music school and a university, and
I play at weddings an in orchestras. I got into writing because my flute
students urged me to write down the stories I used to make up in their lessons
to go with the music, and here I am today!
Do you prefer?
Milk chocolate or Dark?
Dark chocolate!
Coffee or tea? Both. I love
caffeine!
Vodka or tequila? Margaritas-
so whichever is in that.
Romance or a Thriller? Romance for
sure.
Mystery or Horror? Horror- I love a good ghost story!
Did you always want to be an author?
Only about six years ago I
discovered my new dream.
What authors had
an impact on you growing up and as an adult?
Tad Williams-especially his Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy,
Patricia McKillip- for her beautiful writing, Sherry S. Tepper- loved her strong
female protagonists, Ursula Le Guin-for her word building and her unique
worlds.
Did anyone in your life
influence you or encouraged you to be a writer?
My mom is my biggest fan. Also, my
flute teacher has supported me on this new adventure as well. My sister reads
everything I write, and tells me when I’ve gone off the deep end! And, some of
my flute students and their parents.
What is your
writing atmosphere like?
Radio Gaia blaring in the back, a
messy desk with post it notes everywhere, little figurines of a fairy godmother
and Jack Sparrow cheering me on.
What is your favorite aspect or
writing? Your Least Favorite?
Least favorite: the rejections and
the snarky reviews.
Favorite: seeing my cover for the first
time!
Your current book your
promoting is:
A Hero Rising.
How did you come up with the your
story line?
I wanted
to explore James’s story because I’d left him in such a sorry state in Tundra
37. I felt as though he needed to find his own happy ever after.
How do you choose
your characters names?
For the New Dawn series, I tried to fashion them after space terms and star
conglomerations. James from a Hero Rising has a normal name because they are
still on Earth when the prequel starts.
Thanks for having me here today!
Skye O’Connor’s boyfriend never returns after his
gang attempts an assassination of the Governor, and the State Building is
destroyed. Worse, crazed moonshiners addicted to the chemical Morpheus have
stormed the city, and she must find a safe place for her and her boyfriend’s
daughter. When a heroic man saves her, Skye asks to accompany him on his quest
to find the last colony ship left on Earth.
As the city falls around them, James and Skye must
work together to build a new future, all the while rediscovering
their ability to love, before the apocalypse claims them both.
