Countdown to Southern Embrace $10.00 Amazon Gift Card - Day 4

Wow, I can't believe it's Thursday already!

Next Monday my novella Southern Embrace releases! This week (Monday- Friday) I'll be celebrating the countdown to release day by sharing snippets from the story and asking a question about romance.

Next Monday I'll be awarding a lucky winner a $10.00 Amazon Gift Card! To enter to win just answer the question. For each question you answer during the week your name will go into the drawing! Answer all 5 questions and you'll get 5 entries!

Southern Embrace at the heart is about second chances. I was thinking a lot about my first love while writing this book. Your first love always holds a special place in your heart.

Today question is...

If your first love popped back into your life (if your not single pretend you are) would you entertain a relationship again with them?

This is a hard one for me to answer. The ending with me and my first love was very painful. I have ran into him him a few times over the years, but it would take a lot for me to take a leap of faith in that direction. (don't you just love hypothetical questions) So I guess my answer is no!

Here's a scene that warms my heart each time I read it...

“How’s the painting coming? Have you picked the three for the showing?”

“I have two picked out. I’m still working on the third one. I’m so nervous. I’ve never displayed my work before. I’ve always painted just for myself.”

“From what you’ve showed me, I’m sure they’re fantastic. You have some real talent, Van.”

“Thanks, but I think you’re a bit biased.”

He laughed. “How’s the foundation coming?”

“Fine.” She was shocked he had asked. “Everything is going smoothly,” she stammered.

“Baby, I want you to be able to talk about this with me. This—he—is a part of you.”
She just looked at him.

“Come here.”

She moved into his lap.

“Anything that’s important to you is also important to me.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, and to prove it I want you to tell me about him.” He gazed into her eyes.

“What?”

“I need to know, and I think it will help us if you tell me about Stephan. I feel like he’s the elephant in the room and we can’t go forward until we talk about him.”

Van looked at him, completely stunned by his request. As uncomfortable as this conversation was going to be, she knew he was right. She did need to talk about her life when he’d been gone. She took a deep breath. Her brain finally kicked in, and she muttered, “What do you want to know?”

“Everything and nothing at all. I love you, and I want to know about the life you had when I was gone.”

“Are you sure about this? I mean, you really want me to tell you about my life with another man?” Her heart broke at the conflicted look on his face. If there’d been any doubt in her mind that Lance truly loved her, it dissolved.

“He’ll always be in your heart, and I want to know that part of your life. I guess I need to know if he made you happy.”

“Where do you want me start?”

“I know you met him at a bar and you dated a few months before he asked to marry you.”

“Yeah, we married a few months later.”

“Why so soon?”

“I guess he didn’t believe in wasting any time. He always said from the moment he met me he knew he would marry me,” she replied, feeling her face warm under his scrutiny. “I was happy in every aspect of my life with him. Stephan was a hard worker and loved by many. He wasn’t just my husband, he was also my friend. I felt so loved and safe with him.”

“I’m glad he made you happy and loved you so deeply.”

“It does feel good to talk to you about him. I’m glad you understand that he’ll always be a part of me.”

Lance placed his hand over her beating chest. “Van, you have the biggest heart of anyone I know. There’s room in there for both of us.”

She took a deep breath and looked him in the eyes. “I know he’d want me to move on, and I’m trying, but the guilt can be overwhelming sometimes.”

  2. I don't know would be my answer. I would like to say that I may entertain the idea but I would probably be apprehensive, much like Savannah.

  3. I probably would at least consider it. But I would be leery and take it slow to see how the time had changed each of us.
