Part two:

Rachael blinked as she opened the door to make sure she wasn’t seeing things. She couldn’t believe who was standing in front of her. He was as handsome as she remembered. She looked into his blue eyes and smiled.

“James, what are you doing here?”

“Can I come in?”

“Sorry, of course,” she replied, stepping back out of his way.

She sucked in a breath when he bent down and picked up a bag before walking inside. She shook her head and watched as he placed the bag in the hall and started to look around as he rambled about something. She was still so shocked that he was here to focus on what he was saying. James had been her best friend since freshman year of high school when he moved across the street from her. They were inseparable, did everything together, even shared their first kiss. Rachael wanted more, it pissed her off he would never would let it go past kissing. His excuse was that it could ruin their friendship.

 “Rachael?”

Hearing her name snapped her out of her deep thoughts.

“Huh?”

“Have you heard a word I’ve said?”

“Sorry. Wh- what are you doing here?”

“If you were listening you'd know.”

She huffed and rolled her eyes. “I’m listening to now.”

“I ran into Mindy and she told you that you bought a beach house and that you’re going to spend the week here.” He paused and looked me up and down. “She also mentioned what you hoped to accomplish this week.”

“What?” She squealed. “What did she tell you?” Rachael didn’t know if she was more embarrassed or pissed off.

“She told me that you want to start living again and move forward. Which by the way I’m glad you’re finally doing. But, she also told me you were hoping to get laid.”

“I’m going to kill her.”

“Please tell me that they last part isn’t true?”

Rachael’s head was swirling. Did Mindy send him here to stop her? She looked down at the bag at his feet. Did he think he was spending the week with her? Her blood started to boil, she was a grown woman and if she wanted to get good and fucked what business was it of theirs.

“Why do you have a bag?”

“Answer my question,” he replied in a sharp tone as he started to pace.

“Answer mine.” Rachael countered as she crossed her arms over her chest waiting d for him to say something.

James took a deep breath and looked her into the eyes. “Look, this isn’t going how I planned. Let’s start over.”

She relaxed her stance and nodded. “I think that’s a good idea. Would you like a beer?”

“Yes, thank you.”

“I’ll meet you on the deck.”

He nodded and Rachael walked in the kitchen. She loved James, but him showing up wasn't going to change her mind. She needed a good roll in the hay with no strings attached to push her forward. Opening the fridge she grabbed two bottles and headed toward the deck. Once she walked outside she noticed the incredible view. James was standing at the far end looking up into the sky. She always thought he had the perfect body.  He was tall and built. She swore his muscles had muscles. As she approached him she realized just how beautiful he really was with his blonde hair blowing in the breeze. A strange feeling started in the pit of her stomach, and her body started to come alive when he turned and smiled at her. She handed him his beer.

“Your view is amazing.”

“Yes, yes it is.” She knew how beautiful the water looked when the sun set, but she couldn’t tear her eyes away from this stunning man in front of her. Rachael felt like she was truly seeing him for the first time.

“James,” she whispered. He turned and took a step toward her. Her stomach did a flip now that their bodies were touching. She took a deep breath and continued.

“Why are you really here?”

“The truth?” His deep voice made her shiver.

“Yes,” she replied as she looked up into his eyes.

“I want to be the guy that helps you move on.”
