It's my pleasure to have Carrie Ann Ryan here today. Her book Dust of my Wings is defiantly going on my to-be-read list!
Carrie Ann, tell us about yourself.
Hi! Thanks so much for having me!
I'm a paranormal romance author who loves happy endings. I'm also an avid
romance reader, so any recommendations just bring them on over.
Do you prefer
Milk chocolate or Dark?
Milk chocolate for sure.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee, but with lots of cream
Vodka or tequila?
Vodka. We’re not going to discuss
the “tequila” incident.
Romance or a Thriller?
Romance. Definitely.
Mystery or Horror?
Mystery, because my imagination is a
little too good for horror. I need to sleep sometime.
Did you always want to be an author?
I've always wanted to tell stories,
but it wasn't until recently that I decided to become an author for others to
read my work. I've always had those voices in my head and the characters who
wouldn't let go, but it's been a nice change to break off from the “wishing”
and actually doing it.
What authors had
an impact on you growing up and as an adult?
I was named after Stephen King’s
Carrie and when I was young, probably too young, I read almost every book I
could from his. Hence the on abilities to sleep without a nightlight if my
husband is not home. I read those, the classics, and Babysitters Club, but it
wasn't until a few years ago that I started reading romance, and really fell in
love with it. I had over 5000 books, so I can't really tell you which offers
are my favorite, but I can tell you that there are some fantastic people out
there. And if you really want to find books that you can fall in love with, try
romance.
Did anyone in your life
influence you or encouraged you to be a writer?
Rebecca Royce, an author friend of
mine, suggested I try to let out the characters in my head in a story. From that,
Kim seven book series, another seven book series, and a few more series. Keep
telling her thank you, and she won't hear it, so I’m going to say it again,
thank you.
What is your
writing atmosphere like?
I have a little desk in my kitchen,
with music, a stuffed wolf, and my cats.
J
What is your favorite aspect or
writing? Your Least Favorite?
My favorite aspect is plotting. I
loved try to figure out what my characters are what's going to happen. I think
my least aspect is starting to write in the day. I know, you'd think I'd love
it. But I hate trying to tell my mind to focus. But as soon as I get less than
half the page on it, I can't stop.
Your current book your
promoting is:
Dust of My Wings!!! The first book
in my Dante’s Circle series!
How did you come up with your story
line?
This actually came from a plot bunny
Rebecca Royce thinking about what would happen if a lab tech got an Angel's
dust. From there, I opened up the whole new world and figured out that I wanted
the humans not know about the supernaturals, but not be as human as the
thought.
How do you choose
your characters names?
I usually go to baby name sites it is think about
what makes sense that them. Shade and Lily came from the fact that as soon as I
thought about who they were the names just popped. It was a little weird. But I
like them.
Thanks so much for having me!
Humans aren’t as
alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural
that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and
breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic.
But what happens when something changes?
Neat freak
lab tech, Lily Banner lives her life as any ordinary human. She’s dedicated to
her work and loves to hang out with her friends at Dante’s Circle, their local
bar. When she discovers a strange blue dust at work she meets a handsome
stranger holding secrets – and maybe her heart. But after a close call with a
thunderstorm, she may not be as ordinary as she thinks.
Shade Griffin
is a warrior angel sent to Earth to protect the
supernaturals’ secrets. One problem, he can’t stop leaving dust in odd places
around town. Now he has to find every ounce of his dust and keep the presence
of the supernatural a secret. But after a close encounter with a sexy lab tech
and a lightning quick connection, his millennia old loyalties may shift and he
could lose more than just his wings in the chaos.
Excerpt:
Lily huffed out a breath and placed another tile. “I
don’t hate my job, exactly. It’s just
not that big of a deal.” She gave a triumphant smile. “And I win.”
Shade looked into her eyes and groaned. Damn, she was sexy
when she looked so confident.
“Indeed you did. Congratulations, Lily.” Now for the part
that could hurt them both. “How about I buy you a cup of coffee as your
winnings?”
Lily looked taken aback, but Shade didn’t budge. He
needed to know exactly what she knew about this dust. Breaking into her lab and
stealing it would do nothing if the die were already cast.
“Oh, you don’t have to do that. In fact, I really don’t
even know you, so I can’t. But thank you.”
She gathered the tiles quickly and started to stand up,
but Shade touched her wrist. She jumped, knocking a few tiles back on the
table. A jolt of electricity ricocheted through his arm and they both gasped.
His erection pressed against the zipper of his jeans and he groaned, but he
didn’t let go. Lily’s breath quickened and her pupils dilated. Her strawberry
scent wrapped around him like velvet, intoxicating.
